FAQ

FAQ is an abbreviation of Frequently Asked Questions. Below you will find some of the questions we have been asked here at zenSCI. If you do not find your question answered here or elsewhere, you can try to search the site. If nothing comes up please post your question as a comment to this page or send it to us here.

Is zenSCI connected to Zen Buddhism?

No, zenSCI is no more affiliated with Zen Buddhism than it is with any other thought system or religion. The name zenSCI was chosen because it works together with the motto 'Making Sense of Science'. The domain name sensci.com was already taken when zenSCI.com was established.

Is zenSCI political?

No, ZenSci.com is not political. ZenSci.com provides a forum for all people to participate in many important debates. Opinions expressed by individuals here are just that, the opinions of individuals.

Who can participate?

One of the most fundamental ideas of zenSCI is to provide a democratic forum in which the voices of people not ordinarily concerned with such issues as science' impact on society is heard.

So you do not need to be a scientist, or a journalist to participate in the debates on zenSCI, eventhough they are our primary target.

Funding

In order to maintain an independent posture, zenSCI accepts no government funding or endowments. Contributions are received from foundations, corporations, and individuals.

If you wish to sponsor zenSCI you are very welcome to contact us.

History

zenSCI.com was founded in the spring of 2004 by MSc and science journalist Lennart Kiil (zenSCI.dk) from Denmark. He came up with the initial idea of a place for everybody to consider the impact of science on society.

Mission

Primarily, zenSCI wishes to be a medium of good science journalism by building a community that brings together journalists and scientists.

Further, the mission of zenSCI is to provide a place for everybody to discuss the role of science in society. Also, zenSCI wishes to publish reflections on how science relates to a number of institutions in society.
